We talked with autistic people and parents from different backgrounds about ways to make homes and other environments feel safe, so autistics can have spaces to decompress and be themselves.
I still see a lot of “gifted” labeling in the school system, along with a conversation that is frustratingly narrow, because gifted labels cause harm—both to the ability of “gifted” disabled children to get support, as well as to those without the gifted labels.
My brother died because of ableism. Because people—including very close family—were terrified to face his neurodivergence, and his disability.
